COVID-19 Update – 14th May 2020

The Club and all facilities remain closed and all activities postponed.

Following the changes to the lockdown rules announced by the Prime Minister on Sunday, Officers of the club met by web-link to decide if and how the club could be re-opened. The meeting considered a range of advice: from the Government, the RYA and Sport England.

We had also sought advice from Wigan’s Director of Public Health. In her reply to my e-mail,  she stated that because the so called “R number”  remained high in the North-west compared to other regions of the country, it would be ”imprudent” of us to seek to re-open the club at present time. Because of our concern for the health and well-being of our members, this is advice which we cannot ignore.

Over the last week, however, we have developed a plan to re-open the club in carefully controlled phases when conditions change. This is currently being finalised and will go before the full committee on Sunday.  We will then share this plan with you.  Please understand that the various phases of the plan will take time to implement, such as the purchase and installation of sanitiser dispensers, a booking system to control numbers using the facility to prevent over crowding to name a couple.

I know that you will have been missing sailing, particularly in the fine weather enjoyed by the country during lockdown. I believe that there is now the very real prospect that sailing can resume soon. Please be assured that we as club officials are doing everything we can to make this happen.

Thank you for your understanding and support.  Please continue to follow the government advice and stay safe,

With best wishes,

Neil Hornby

COVID-19 Update – 11th May 2020

The Club and all facilities remain closed and all activities postponed.

Following the COVID-19 update from the government last night, please note that the club and all facilities will remain closed and all activities postponed while we await further details from the government and the RYA.

We have been looking over the last weeks and months at a stepped approach to reopening the club and we will hopefully give further details of this over the next week or so. The committee is agreed that the club can not reopen until appropriate measures are in place to ensure the safety of all our members. To do otherwise would risk lives.

To this end, the club officers will be meeting by video conference on Wed 13 May 2020 to discuss the club's next steps including a stepped approach to reopening.

As mentioned in the last update the club site still being monitored and checked for security.

Thank you for your patience and continuing compliance.

For the avoidance of doubt this suspension covers ALL Real Life activities and not just organised activities i.e. individual sailing, kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding, windsurfing and any other activity further notice

Please keep yourself and your loved ones safe

Best wishes
