The  Coronavirus and Club activities update 27th March 2020

Since the last club update, further advice has been issued by the government to restrict the spread of the Covid 19 virus. In the light of the latest advice, the following, further restrictions to club activity have become necessary.

With immediate effect, all water activities are suspended until further notice. The club buildings, dinghy park and grounds should be considered closed to members and visitors.

The main gate to the club will be securely padlocked and members who live locally will check on club security as part of their physical activity walk.

Hopefully, the duration of this new arrangement will be short and we can soon get back on the water and start building our new club. The situation is under constant review and you will be notified of any changes via, e-mail, website, and Facebook as they occur.

Stay safe and see you soon.

Wigan and St Helens Sailing Club is located at Poolstock, on the beautiful Scotman's Flash. The Sailing Club is a merged club formed in April 2020 from Wigan Sailing Club and Pilkington Sailing Club. Some details about the merger and history of the clubs can be found on the main part of the club website.

The club has a friendly atmosphere and membership is open to everyone with an interest in sailing and related watersports.

The Club is run by its members who organise regular club racing (usually all year round) supplemented by a healthy series of social events and club trips including weekend trips away to Abersoch, Coniston and Ullswater.

Sailing at the club takes place in a variety of boats including Enterprises, GP14s, Wayfarers, as well as Lasers, Solos and Mirrors. If you are new to sailing please don't buy a boat before trying a few different ones. This is the biggest mistake people make!

The club has GP14s, Enterprises, Lasers, Toppers and Optimist dinghies which are available for the use of members.

The clubhouse has a club room and a conservatory for viewing those inevitable capsizes! Changing rooms and hot showers are available if you are doing the capsizing!  There is also a galley that provides hot and cold drinks as well as hot meals on club days. Again the galley is run by members for members.

The club makes its facilities available to a number of other groups who we work with closely including Wigan Sea Cadets, Wigan Canoeing Group, Wigan Water Dragons (Dragon Boaters), as well as groups from the local nature reserve.

Stop by for a visit to see our facilities and meet our friendly members and learn more.

Membership prices are kept low as we are a not for profit organisation run completely by volunteers. It is expected that members perform the occasional duty such as Patrol Boat Cover or Officer of the Day, but do not worry, we provide comprehensive training for this.

Whatever your budget or time commitments, we have the perfect membership option for you.
