Discover Watersports

Want to learn more about water sports? Fancy some time out with (or away from?) the family on the May Day Bank Holiday?

between 11 am and 4 pm on 6th May to take part in Wigan and St Helens Sailing Club RYA “Discover Sailing” open day where you can learn more and have fun sampling what’s on offer.

 

All events are free of charge!

Please note: all under 18s must be accompanied by a parent / responsible adult.

Windsurfing

As part of the Discover Sailing event, WiSH will be showcasing Windsurfing for the first time. We invite you to come along during the day and learn a little about this sport from some of our instructors and what the club's future windsurfing related plans are.

 

We will have some of our 'start windsurfing' course kit  for you to see, you can also learn how to rig a sail and even have a go on a land based windsurfing simulator. As with other activities, there is no charge for this event.

Canoeing

Wigan Canoeing Group will be offering opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and SUP (subject to wind)!

You will need some warm clothes, a towel and some old shoes/trainers you don`t mind getting wet, the Canoeing Group will supply everything else including wetsuits.

The risk assessment has been prepared in line with PaddleUK recommendations.

It is essential that you read the terms and conditions.

​

We will provide personal flotation aids, but not wetsuits, so wear old clothes and flat shoes, and a set of dry clothes might be useful.

​

After completing the registration process, you will get an opportunity to ride in a sailing dinghy under the control of an experienced helm. The helm is under instruction to cancel the session if they deem it unsafe.

​

Prebooking is essential.
